Little Joey was saving up to buy a new bike. He discussed it with his parents. They said if he mowed the lawn every week, they would pay him an allowance. His brother, Jimmy also wanted a bike. He was offered the same deal. If he went out and helped with the lawn, he could also save up and get a bike. Every week, like clockwork, Joey was out sweating his ass off mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, and edging the grass. He worked very hard. His brother Jimmy sat inside, watched cartoons and played XBOX while Joey worked his ass off. He even helped pick up around the house to earn a little extra money.
Joey saved all of his allowance and even saved the cash he got on his birthday. Jimmy blew his birthday money on XBOX games and candy. After a few months, Joey had the money for his bike. He was so excited!!!! He couldn’t wait to get the bike. He asked his father if they could go to the store the next day and get it. His father said, “Well Joey, I have a lot of meetings tomorrow. But if you want, you give me the money, and I will pick it up tomorrow on my way home from work.” Joey thought it was a great plan, so he gave his dad the money to pick up the bike.
The next day Joey was ecstatic. Today was the day that he would finally get the bike of his dreams. His father pulled up in the driveway. Joey ran outside to greet his father. His dad got out of his car and asked Joey if he would get his brother Jimmy. A little confused, Joey did what his father had asked and got his brother Jimmy. They went outside and watched his father pull the bike out of the back of the car. He was gleaming with pride. Finally, all that hard work and sacrifice paid off. He finally had the bike of his dreams!!!! His father wheeled the bike up to Joey. “Here you go son.” Joey was on cloud nine. Just then, his father went in back of his car and pulled out another bike, the exact same one as Joey’s. He wheeled it up to Jimmy and said, “Here you go son.” Joey was upset. He asked why Jimmy got a bike when he didn’t do anything to EARN it and that it wasn’t fair. His father simply stated that he felt bad for Jimmy because he had gotten a new bike and that Jimmy didn’t have one.
What’s the moral of the story you ask?.......Why bother working your ass off, when you can get things handed to you? And that my friends is Social Justice. Welcome to America, the home of the hand-outs. What message are we sending our children and why is this way of thinking tolerated?
